Women's Travel: More Restrictions

As we know women's rights are very limited in Iran and surrounding countries.  Currently if women wants to obtain a passport they must get written consent from either their father, husband, or guardian.  If the woman is married written consent is required before any travel documents may be given to her.  However, a more recent law is being put on the table that would further restrict the travel laws for women.  It is being proposed that in addition to the written consent, if a man (husband) decides that he no longer is allowing his wife to leave the country he will notify the authorities or airport security.  The authorities then would have the right to confiscate the woman's passport.  In addition to this newly proposed law any woman under 40 is required written consent from their parents or husband before they may travel, even if they are single.
The Iranian parliament is claiming that these new laws are not to oppress women and restrict their travel but to help keep them safe.  This in fact is just another way to try and keep a woman in the home.  It is yet another travel restriction that is put on women in order for men to have better control over them.
