Prompt 4

4. An observation or commentary that links ideas and questions from our course with learning that you are carrying out in your other COR 330 course this semester. Consider this blog posting reflective.

The movie, “The Hidden Half” we watched in class relates a lot to my other COR 330 class, Gender Issues in the Muslim World. This movie shows us the gender inequalities in Iran. The fact that an Iranian woman filmed this movie justifies the truth behind the separations between men and women in the Middle East.
In the film the main character, Fereshteh, her husband dismisses a case for a women for crimes. He doesn’t think it is of any importance. Fereshteh feels as if she has to speak for this woman and comes out with a story of her own that is very similar to this woman she is trying to help. She hopes her husband will take another look at the case to find a new verdict.
The movies shows Fereshteh in her youth as a student and shows her involvement with rebels. In my other COR 330 we talked about gender roles and specifically the roles women play. Men don’t want their women educated because if they are educated they will know they deserve something better. Their jobs are to be a housewife and take care of the children. The film showed a good picture of how a woman has to rely on a man if the woman is educated or not. Even if it promotes women’s empowerment it is still a daily struggle to come by in the Middle East.
These two classes parallel each other. With each topic we discuss we always end up talking about the women’s role in it in the other class. Women play a part in everything so it is important to know where they are.
