For the first time in his life, our current President of the United States will be setting foot in the Middle East as the acting President. The visit (which is speculated to occur on March 20th) was the development of Obama congratulating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his re-election in January.
This event is monumental in that it will be Obama's first time in Isreal as President as well as a chance for both nations to further deepen the bonds between one another. It is a chance for both nations to further discuss a wide variety of issues (including Iran and Syria to name a few). While away, press secretary Jay Carney stated that Obama would be working with officials from the Palestinian Authority and Jordan on various regional issues. The last time Obama had visited the Middle East was back in 2008 during that election year.
The reaction to this is mixed for many. On one side many seem to question why it has taken the Obama so long to return to one of his nations allies. The other side see it as a way to amend not having visit after Obama's stop in Egypt during his first term. Either way, things are on the move, and things will start picking up soon.
