CNN Article
I found this article to pretty interesting, and very relevant to our class. I have yet to see the movie Argo, but i knew that it was about Americans and Canadians trying to save the hostages from Iran. It was based off a true story, but isn't exactly an accurate portrayal of the events In America, the movie won Best Drama Movie at the Golden Globes, and was very highly acclaimed. But despite this, the people of Iran found the movie really offensive. They claim that the movie shows the Iranian people as over-emotional, irrational, diabolical, and insane, while the movie shows the people of the United States as heroic. It ties on to our class because it shows that America is still latching on to the idea that America is the angel in everything, and that the Middle East is evil and crazy. It's just reinforcing misconceptions in American's heads, and that is what we are trying to avoid in this class.
It will be interesting to see Iran's side of what went down (which will most likely be biased also), and to compare it to Argo, which I will probably see soon. It is possible that they will make it anti-American, but from their comments, they seem to be trying to make it as accurate as possible; so it will be interesting. Hopefully the movie will get on the news in America when it comes out, so more Americans can see it, and realize some of their misconceptions like we are doing in class.
