While not so prevalent in the news as of late, "Innocence of Muslims" certainly connects to our course of film and the Middle East. As most of us well know now, this short film was uploaded to YouTube some months back and was the cause of great outrage in many parts of the world. The video, seen here, was widely believed blasphemous and insensitive in regards to the Islamic faith. It, combined with many other agitating elements, contributed to massive uproars and in part can be connected to multiple cases of rioting, desecration, and death.
Not to pick an easy topic, but when considering the nature of our course and recent current events this controversial issue immediately came to mind. It plays a valuable role in discerning individual and societal rationals as well as how a peoples can react when offended and the potential spiraling actions that may be incited. Perception, interpretation, motivation, and personal values are all heavily involved with how this and other films are received and as shown can provoke all kinds of responses.
